Free Delivery?

One of the most frequenly misused terms is "Free Delivery." Just as there is no free "lunch" there is no "free delivery" in the flower business. When florists use the term "free delivery" what is happening is that they are including the price for delivery in the price of flowers. The most outrageous perpetrators are the "order gatherers" like 1-800-xxx.com and the wire service sites. These entities don't collect a delivery charge and, again, the price is included in what you pay. Florists that fill orders for the wire services and order gatherers are allowed to deduct their total local delivery charge from the amount provided by the wire service.

For example, if a wire service has an item priced at $59.99 and they transmit it to a florist whose local delivery service charge is $20, the florist is allowed to fill the order for $39.99 worth of product. The truth is that you don't get a better deal with order gatherers, you just get less product. If the local florist sells the product for $59.99 plus delivery, common sense tells you that you're not going to get the same arrangement as the one for $39.99.

Free delivery is a farce and, really, we all know, you get what you pay for, always. No one can deliver for free, not wire services, not florists, nobody. PERIOD.
